It’s all about bra

I’ve been running for over 20 years and I can safely say that in those 20 years, no sports brand has come up with the perfect running bra. Technology is advancing in everything, even socks, but no one has yet been able to find out the secret to the perfect bra. Ideal, I mean which would fit perfectly, dry quickly, not rub under the ribs and armpits areas.

Many years ago, I started running in thin seamless bras and years later I returned to them again.

My guide is mainly suitable for girls with breast sizes up to B. Many of the bras described in the article are suitable for girls with any breast size, but personally I am not looking for good support for myself, of course support is extremely important, but it is also important for me that the bra has a minimum the number of seams, details, it dried quickly and provided light breast support. Interestingly, even the thinnest bras support the breasts very well, I found out when I did an experiment and ran 5 kilometers without a bra, to be honest, it was a terrible feeling and I would never recommend anyone to repeat it. My point is that even a very thin and light piece of fabric on your breasts while running gives it support. Why breast size is important to consider in order to regulate the support you need, but you also need to understand that not everyone needs extra support.

And one more interesting fact before I turn to my article.

When I was in high school, I hated the usual bras, they brought me a lot of inconvenience in the form of falling straps and bra elements digging into my body. When I started running around me, no one was running, it was a rare and not popular sport in my environment and there was not a single piece of information about what I should wear as underwear while running. Then I ran in a regular bra and hated it, I am very glad that after a while I discovered simple thin and seamless bras that saved my running life and, most importantly, then confidently moved into my everyday life. Let’s talk about why we still need to wear a bra while running.

Women need a sports bra during running and other high-impact physical activities to provide support and minimize discomfort. Without proper support, the breasts can move excessively, leading to discomfort, pain, and even physical damage to breast tissue. A sports bra helps to reduce breast movement, providing support and comfort, and allowing women to engage in physical activity without worry or distraction.

Additionally, a sports bra can help to reduce the risk of developing conditions such as sagging or stretch marks. By providing proper support, a sports bra helps to prevent stretching and damage to the Cooper’s ligaments, which are the supporting structures of the breast.

It’s important for women to wear a sports bra that is appropriate for their level of physical activity and provides the level of support they need. Choosing the right sports bra can help to ensure comfort, prevent physical damage, and allow women to focus on their performance during physical activity.

Seams on a sports bra can rub against the skin and cause discomfort during running, or any other high-impact activity, due to the repetitive motion and friction generated during the activity. This can be especially problematic for individuals with sensitive skin, who may be prone to chafing and irritation. To minimize discomfort, it is important to choose a sports bra with flat, smooth seams that are sewn to reduce friction against the skin. Additionally, it’s a good idea to make sure the bra fits properly and does not ride up or move during physical activity, as this can also cause friction and discomfort. If you are experiencing discomfort from seams during running or other physical activity, it may be best to try a different sports bra or adjust the fit of the bra to reduce friction against the skin.

To prevent discomfort from seams on a sports bra during running or other physical activities, there are several steps you can take:

  1. Choose the right sports bra: Select a sports bra with flat, smooth seams that are sewn to reduce friction against the skin. A sports bra designed for running, with medium- to high-support, is recommended for high-impact activities.
  2. Ensure proper fit: Make sure the sports bra fits properly and does not ride up or move during physical activity. A sports bra that is too loose or too tight can cause friction and discomfort.
  3. Use glide or anti-chafing products: Applying glide or anti-chafing products, such as petroleum jelly, to areas of the skin that may be prone to chafing can help to reduce friction and prevent discomfort.
  4. Wear breathable fabrics: Choose sports bras made from breathable fabrics, such as moisture-wicking materials, to help keep skin cool and dry during physical activity.
  5. Adjust the straps: Adjusting the straps on the sports bra can help to reduce friction against the skin and prevent discomfort.

Underlying medical conditions that may cause discomfort from seams on a sports bra during physical activity include skin irritation, dermatitis, eczema, and intertrigo. These conditions can cause the skin to be more sensitive and prone to irritation and chafing, and may be exacerbated by friction from seams on a sports bra during physical activity. In addition, individuals with a history of breast surgery, such as a mastectomy, may experience sensitivity or discomfort in the area, which can be exacerbated by seams on a sports bra. If you are experiencing persistent discomfort from seams during physical activity, it is recommended that you speak with a healthcare provider to determine if an underlying medical condition is the cause. They can provide appropriate treatment and advice on how to manage the condition and prevent discomfort during physical activity.

Choosing the right sports bra can be important for comfort and performance during physical activity. Here are some factors to consider when choosing a sports bra:

  1. Impact level: Consider the level of impact of your physical activity when choosing a sports bra. High-impact activities, such as running, jumping, or contact sports, require a sports bra with higher support, while low-impact activities, such as yoga or weightlifting, can be done with a lighter-support sports bra.
  2. Size and fit: Make sure to measure your bust and choose a sports bra that fits properly. A sports bra that is too loose or too tight can cause discomfort and minimize its effectiveness.
  3. Support: Consider the level of support you need, which is largely determined by your bust size. Women with larger busts may benefit from a sports bra with higher support, such as a medium- or high-support sports bra, while women with smaller busts may be able to use a lighter-support sports bra.
  4. Seams: Look for sports bras with flat, smooth seams to minimize friction and prevent discomfort during physical activity.
  5. Straps: Consider the type of straps you prefer, such as adjustable, cross-back, or racerback straps. Adjustable straps can help you customize the fit, while cross-back or racerback straps can help prevent straps from slipping off your shoulders.
  6. Fabric: Look for sports bras made from breathable, moisture-wicking materials to help keep you cool and dry during physical activity.
  7. Comfort: Finally, choose a sports bra that is comfortable for you. Try on different styles and brands to find one that fits well and provides the support and comfort you need during physical activity.

I also want to add that during my running life I have had good experiences with a bra on the races. and just as unsuccessful, when there was no trace of the skin. Below I will talk in more detail about my most successful bras and also about the disadvantages of these models.

  1. Outdoor Voices, Super Form Crop top

Their Superform crop top is one of their most popular products, and is known for its comfortable fit, breathable material, and trendy design.

The Outdoor Voices Performance Bra is a popular sports bra designed specifically for running and high-impact activities. It is made with sweat-wicking, quick-drying materials and features a supportive, high-coverage design to help reduce bounce and keep you comfortable during intense workouts.

It is really good bra, it has support, dries very fast, not snug, high coverage, but it has one bid minus – it is not a bra, it is crop top and it is perfect if you wear it separately, but if you need wear T-shirt it will too much layers. Otherwise it is perfect top for race, very you do not need wear a backpack. I prefer wear T-shirt with backpacks, especially if you still need your skim after race.

  1. On running, Performance bra

The On Running Performance Bra is a sports bra designed for women. According to the product description on the On Running website, it features a comfortable and supportive fit, quick-drying fabric, and mesh panels for increased breathability. It is said to be ideal for medium to high-impact activities such as running, gym workouts, and dance.

On Running Performance Bra is actually one of the best bra this type I tried. Good fit, high bust support but it is not snug. Soft materials. The only negative for me is the non-removable pads, which not only get wet from sweat while running, do not dry well, but are also an additional layer that can become critical when running in the heat, in other words, it’s hot to run in this bra in the summer. Or if you have another layer of clothing over your bra, that’s hot too. Plus I would work on minimizing seams and materials.

  1. Tracksmith, Allston Bra

This is one of my favorite running bras. It has a very good cut if you have a wide back and all bras rub against your armpits. The bra has medium support and is a little tight, but overall very comfortable and with a minimum of materials that can rub against the body. The only thing I do not recommend is to put something in your pocket, because then the sconce will definitely do a lot of harm to your skin. Also, the fabric dries for a very long time, and if after running you go to drink coffee, then your chest will be in a humid and cool environment for a long time.

I have three of these bras, and despite some disadvantages, besides the fact that it dries for a long time, it may seem narrow in the area of the ribs, and so, despite some disadvantages, this bra takes a place in my wardrobe and is one of my favorites.

  1. Tracksmith, Run Bra

Very similar to the previous bra in materials, but completely different in style, it is shorter and wider, so it will definitely fit more people. I would say it has a classic fit and in general, besides the fact that it dries for a long time and is a little thick, I won’t say that I found other disadvantages, it’s just important for me that the bra dries a little faster than this model, but I like it for summer hot days.

The brand also has a swimming version of this bra, which I love, it dries a little faster, but in fact, on hot days in summer, I prefer to run in the swimming version, since you can always plunge into the ocean or lake and the bra will dry quickly. I don’t use it on other days as it has a swimwear-like plastic bra feel, which is generally okay considering it’s for swimming.

  1. Tracksmith, Bell Lap Top

I think this is one of the best tops on the market for running and fast training. The minimum number of seams, good coverage I can say high, medium support, in such a top you will feel confident even at a city marathon. The only thing I can’t wear a top under clothes is that it feels like clothes on its own.

  1. Lululemon, Like a Cloud Longline Bra *Light Support, B/C Cup

Lululemon Like a Cloud Longline Bra, which is marketed as a light support option for B/C cup sizes. However, the level of support offered by this bra may not be enough for all individuals, especially those with larger cup sizes or who engage in high-impact activities like running.

Otherwise, I like this bra because it is soft, minimal seams, good fit in the neck, armpits and ribs even if it is a bit longer than usual, still very comfortable fit. The only thing is that the bra is thick and because of this it gains sweat and does not dry well. It can also be hot for the summer if you run in it under your clothes. I prefer it for cool days.

  1. Lululemon, invigorate training tank top

The Lululemon Invigorate Training Tank Top is designed for high-impact activities, such as running, and may provide a comfortable and supportive fit during these types of activities. It’s a great top, but it’s a top. The upper material is quite thick so I can’t imagine wearing this top under any other clothes, again the top will get sweat under the clothes. I would say it’s perfect for running or training in an environment where you don’t have to wear anything else on top. Otherwise great design and fit. I have run races in it and have never had a problem with chafing in this top.

  1. Lume six, Alta Medium Impact Sports Bra

This is a young brand with a founder, a girl I met at the half marathon expo. The bra is very thin, while maintaining good support, excellent materials that dry quickly. Excellent fit. I like the idea that with support, the bra is minimalistic and light, also dries fast. I liked the fit, the only thing that bothers me about this bra is the armpit area, it seems to me that the bra is designed so that it has deep cutouts in the armpit area and this increases the risk of chafing in these areas. I will keep a close eye on the development of this young brand as they really try to make the perfect bra and would recommend.

  1. True, True Body Boost V Neck Bra

The True & Co. True Body Boost V Neck Bra is a women’s lingerie and sports bra that features a seamless, wire-free design for added comfort. So this is my favorite type of bra. Super thin, but still like I said before gives support I need. Fast drying, light and and if the bra does not have large thick seams, then it will never rub, unfortunately these types of bras often have thick seams.

According to the product description on the True & Co. website, it has a comfortable, stretchy fit that molds to your body, and provides lift and support without the use of underwires or padding. The V-neckline allows for a more natural look under low-cut tops, and the bra can be worn as both a lingerie piece and for low-impact physical activities.

I want to compare this bra with my favorite from Victoria Secret. Unfortunately, the brand stopped producing my favorite bra and replaced it with a similar model, but of much lower quality, which eventually led to the fact that the new model rubs the skin terribly.

As you can see in the photo, this bra has flat and minimal seams, and the pad cutouts at the top of the bra can’t rub in any way.

But the new model and the main change are not just materials, but also cut. The cutouts for the pads are now at the bottom and unfortunately they rub the place under the bust terribly, also the seams are flat but too thick.

Not so long ago I bought a SKIM brand bra in the hope that it could become my new favorite, but I haven’t run in it yet, but after trying it on, it seems that the bra has an unfortunate fit in the armpit area.

10. Nike FE/NOM Flyknit

Women’s High-Support Non-Padded Sports Bra

The Nike FE/NOM Flyknit Women’s High-Support Non-Padded Sports Bra is highly rated by customers for its comfort, support, and design. The flyknit material provides a snug and comfortable fit, while the high-support design is perfect for high-impact activities. Many customers also appreciate the lack of padding, which they say allows for a more natural feel during movement. Overall, the Nike FE/NOM Flyknit Women’s High-Support Non-Padded Sports Bra is a popular choice among athletes and fitness enthusiasts.

Yes, the Nike FE/NOM Flyknit Women’s High-Support Non-Padded Sports Bra is good for running. It is designed specifically for high-impact activities and provides ample support to help minimize movement and discomfort during runs. And yes, I have run many races in this model and it is probably one of the best bras on the market that can be used for ultra races. Like I said before, I like minimal support, but when it comes to running 10+ hours without stopping, I prefer high support, but I still want a bra that isn’t too stuffy/hot and thick. I don’t like to run in this model every day, as all this bra has a high support and a snug fit, which makes my daily runs less comfortable. But when it comes to ultra running, this is the best bra, the main thing is not to forget to use Vaseline on the edge line, as the bra has a thick fabric and the edges may rub the skin.

11. Nike Swoosh

The Nike Swoosh Women’s Medium-Support 1-Piece Pad Sports Bra is a popular choice among customers due to its comfortable fit and medium-support design. The one-piece pad provides additional coverage and support, while the medium-support design is suitable for a variety of activities, including running, cycling, and strength training. The bra’s simple and stylish design, featuring the iconic Nike swoosh, is also a plus. Nike Swoosh Women’s Medium-Support 1-Piece Pad Sports Bra is good for running. Its medium-support design and one-piece pad provide the necessary support for running, while the bra’s soft and breathable material helps keep the wearer cool and comfortable during a run. It is possible highly that the seams were rubbing or chafing against their skin during physical activity, but still this model is considering classic fit bra. I don’t use it every day as the elastic at the bottom rubs my underbust area and is also too tight for me. But this is a classic bra suitable for many, but also hurts under bust area for very, very many women. To be honest, I like the fit and the model, it also doesn’t always rub me, more often on days when the skin becomes more sensitive. But still every day I prefer to run in something lighter and thinner.

12. Nike Alate Solo

The Nike Alate Solo Women’s Light-Support Non-Padded Longline Sports Bra is the light-support design is suitable for low-impact activities, such as yoga, Pilates. The non-padded design allows for a more natural feel, and the longline style provides additional coverage and support. The bra’s soft and breathable material helps to keep the wearer cool and dry during physical activity. Overall, the Nike Alate Solo Women’s Light-Support Non-Padded Longline Sports Bra is a great choice for women looking for a comfortable and stylish sports bra for low-impact activities.

While you can technically run in the Nike Alate Solo Women’s Light-Support Non-Padded Longline Sports Bra, it is designed specifically for low-impact activities and may not provide enough support for running. Running is considered a high-impact activity, and a sports bra with higher support is generally recommended to help minimize movement and discomfort.

The Nike Alate Solo Women’s Light-Support Non-Padded Longline Sports Bra is best suited for women with smaller busts who participate in low-impact activities, such as yoga. Women with larger busts or who participate in high-impact activities, such as running, jumping, or contact sports, may need a sports bra with higher support to help minimize movement and discomfort. It is important to choose a sports bra that provides the appropriate level of support for your individual needs and physical activity. For me personally, these models have enough support for running, if the run is not long and not very intense. In general, I would pay attention to these models even for daily use.

13. Auden™, Unlined Racerback Bralette

And the last bra on my list for today, a list that I will definitely add to this is a brand that can be found in any large store. I liked this bra because it is provides very light support and coverage, minimalistic and almost seamless, although it is not. It has light support, dries quickly and sits well. If only the seams were flatter, then everything would be perfect.
